Paving the Way for the New Homeowners

Published by Nationwide Relocation Services on March 7th, 2012

You did it! The movers have picked up the contents of your entire house and you are ready to move to your new home and community. The effort that goes into making a move should not go unrecognized: it takes months and months of planning as well as handling innumerable details. Nationwide Relocation Services consumer reports help you pick the right mover for you. Settling into the new house is next on your agenda, but wait. Is there something you need to do before you begin unpacking and setting up?

While you are leaving, someone else is moving in and may need a little help from you. Making sure that the current property is presentable has probably already been taken care of, but what about some of the other details? If you’re not sure what we’re talking about, we’ve made a list to help you out.

Before You Leave: Details Checklist
Aside from tidying up and leaving the house in a presentable condition, you may want to consider the following details to give the new owners a proper welcome.

  • Keys. The people that purchased your house received keys at the closing, however, if you have extra sets leave them behind. An extra set or two is always helpful.
  • Remote. Along with the keys, don’t forget the garage door opener remote controls.
  • Manuals. Typically homeowners sell their house with the appliances intact. As a courtesy, leave a folder with the manuals and warranty cards.
  • Instructions. Every house has quirky things like close the left pantry door before you close the right to avoid sticking. Make a list of the quirky things in the house that will make life easier for the property owners.
  • Introductions. You’ve undoubtedly built up a network of services such as: lawn care, plumbing, handyman, pool service and so on. It’s a very nice gesture to leave an envelope with the business cards of these professionals. You can also suggest the best gas station, pharmacy and dry cleaners. Introduce the new homeowners to your neighbors if there’s time before you leave.

Published by Nationwide Relocation Services on January 25th, 2012
Gifts

Housewarming gifts are commonly given regardless if there is a housewarming party or not. Along with all of the other gifts you need to give during the course of a year you might be maintaining a budget. You can give a beautiful gift for under $50 that will be useful and remembered for many years.
When shopping for a gift keep in mind the recipient’s likes and dislikes and tailor the gift to them. Too often people buy what they like and that can mean disappointment for the person receiving it. Also keep in mind their beliefs or traditions that might be intruded upon by certain items: food, alcohol and religious or spiritual icons might be upsetting and inappropriate. (more…)

Chanukah and Christmas at the Same Time! Holy Celebrations Batman!

christmas 2007

Every year on December 25th, Christmas is celebrated. Not so with Chanukah. Due to the transition of dates from the Hebrew calendar to the Gregorian calendar, the eight days of Chanukah fall anywhere in between the end of November and the end of December. It is not surprising that the dates of the two holidays may coincide.

Considering that many households celebrate the two holidays, it can become a huge undertaking to pay homage to both, yet it is doable and can be accomplished without skipping a beat!

Decorations and Holiday Preparations
Your decorations and color schemes do not have to clash: simply combine the colors of Christmas and Chanukah using the silver, gold, blue, green and red color pallet harmoniously. You can decorate the tree in blue and silver or gold or you can light the menorah with green, red and gold candles. Nothing is written in stone and can’t be amicably accomplished.
